I’m not going to lie, everyday is “no makeup Monday” for me. It’s a very rare occasion when I actually put on makeup. Mostly because I have sensitive skin and it tends to react funny when I clog it up with a bunch of products, but also because I can’t stand having to take it off at the end of the day. I feel like it’s so much wear-and-tear on the delicate facial skin to have to wipe everything off, especially around the eyes.
Why I stopped wearing makeup on a regular basis:
After I graduated high school I started breaking out and was very self-conscious about it since I never had skin issues before. I would then cover up my face with makeup to try and hide my imperfections, but all this did was make it worse. It wasn’t until I got rid of the many hormone disruptors that I was surrounding myself with everyday that I started to see improvement. For instance, I made eating mostly organic a priority, I got rid of artificial fragrances in my life, and I used cleaner makeup and hair products. This in combination with a positive attitude and less stress cleared up my skin.
I now don’t want to cover up with a bunch of makeup. I still have the occasional breakout, redness, dry patches, and so on, but I don’t stress about it or jump to the concealer. Instead, I take a deep breath, realize that it’s no big deal, and continue to make healthy lifestyle changes that will improve the quality of my skin.
Benefits of Ditching the Makeup:
- Skin can breathe
- Less wear-and-tear on the face
- Fewer foreign ingredients being absorbed into the body through the skin
- Easier bedtime routine
- No makeup on your significant other’s clothing after you’ve hugged it out 😉
…and most importantly…
- You let your true beauty shine and feel liberated
I really enjoyed this video of the TODAY anchors going without makeup and what they had to say about it. Hoda and Kathie Lee are hilarious!
What’s holding you back from going without makeup today or any other day?
Let’s talk about it in the comments below.
