Let’s go back to the basics of gift giving, to what the holidays are really all about. It’s not about how much money you spend or even giving anything at all, it’s about sharing your love with one another and being present; that’s a gift all on its own.
My siblings and I usually do a Secret Santa amongst each other and last year I suggested that instead of buying gifts, we make something for each other. One of my sisters said that would be fine so long as the materials used to make the gift equal the amount we agree to spend on each other for it to be fair. To me, that was a HUGE turnoff to the whole thing and I really didn’t even want to participate at all.
The point of this time of year isn’t to just spend a certain amount on each other, it’s to give the gift of love. And anything that anyone gives me that comes from the heart will bring joy to my life, whether it’s a hand-written note, a hug, or a thoughtful gift.
So this year I opted out of Secret Santa and instead will be sharing my love for my family and friends in my own special way, within my means. STRESS-FREE…Imagine that!
How do you feel about gift giving around the holidays? This week, I’ll be sharing some affordable and thoughtful gift ideas, and be sure to share yours too! With love, Devon.
